34, 000 differently-abled students to benefit from enhanced scholarships : New slabs declared first time after formation of State

 Social Welfare Department issues new guidelines

The State Social Welfare Department officials announced the new scholarships slabs for differently able students on the directives of Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh. The new plan includes the State and Central Government scholarships. About 34 thousand students from Standard-1 to Standard -XII will benefit from the new scholarships. This is the first time after the formation of Chhattisgarh that new slabs of scholarships were declared.  The students of Pre-Matric scholarships will be allotted to students of 9-10 standard under the Central Government plan and the Post-Matric students scholarship will be given to the students of 11-12 Standard. The Post-Matric Scholarships will be awarded to students of I.T.Is, Polytechnic college students of Diploma courses, medical colleges students, Technical education, graduation students of Arts, commerce and Science.
Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh expressed his satisfaction for the Department's efforts to streamline and announce the new slabs of scholarships for physically handicapped students. The Social Welfare Department officials had decided to implement the new scholarships rates immediately. Social Welfare Department Minister Mrs. Ramsheela Sahu instructed the officials to implement it as soon as possible. Secretary of the Department Mr. Sonmani Bora said that this is the first time that new scholarships were being introduced after the formation of State 16 years ago. The Central Government is also sensitive to the needs of the deprived sections of the society.
Mr. Bora said that circulars had been issued to all the Department officials, District Collectors, Chief Executive Officers of District Panchayats, District Education Officers, officials of Nagar panchayats for prompt implementation. The officials said that the Chhattisgarh students should have 40 per cent or more disability, those who have passed their previous examination will get scholarships. Secretary Mr. Bora said that Central scholarships will be given for the entire duration of their courses. The students should apply Online. The website (www.sw.cg.gov.in). The student will get an ID which will be valid till the entire duration of their study.
