Raipur, 4
July 2017
PWD and Transport Minister Mr. Rajesh Moonat informed today that
keeping in view the GST system, 16 borderline check posts of Transport
Department will be shut down from July 4 midnight 12 o'clock. He said- it is an
important step towards making Chhattisgarh a barrier-free state, as per the
vision of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh.
Mr. Moonat
said- Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has realized the concept of one nation,
one tax and on market through GST. Smooth and obstacle free business-trade is
also one of the priority of GST. GST has come into effect in the nation from
July 1. In the same sequence, on Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh's instructions,
Chhattisgarh Government's Transport Department has decided to shut down borderline
check posts. The Transport Department Officials appointed in these check posts
will be attacked to RTO offices after shutdown. The borderline check posts that
are being closed includes the ones in Potakohra, Chhota Manpur and Manpur
(District- Rajnandgaon), Chilphi (District Kabeerdham), Khamharpali and
Baghbahara (District Mahasamund), Kewanchi (District Bilaspur), Dhanwar and
Ramanujganj (District- Balrampur), Ghutritola and Chanti (District Koriya),
Rengarpali (District Raigarh), Shankh and Lavakera check post (District
Jashpur), Konta (District Sukma) and Dhanpunji (District Bastar).
Mr. Moonat
also informed that strict action will be taken against overloaded trucks.
Moreover, flying squad will also take action against the guilty. He told that
obstacle free goods transportation system is necessary for successful
implementation of 'one nation, one tax and one market' vision. Chhattisgarh
Government had abolished commercial tax check posts from April 1, 2011, in
order to make business-trade convenient. Despite that in year 2011-12, state's
commercial tax revenue increased by 25 % in year 2011-12 and revenue collection
was higher than other states of the nation and GDP growth in later years.
Mr. Moonat
said- being stopped at barrier and the entire checking process takes times and
delays the arrival of goods transport vehicle at the destination, burns extra
fuel and affects environment. Keeping all these aspects, it is necessary to
shut down check posts to facilitate barrier free inter-state transport for
implementation of GST system. Moreover, it is also necessary for making entire
India 'one economic zone'. With the same objective, State Government has
decided to shut down these 16 check posts. Mr. Moonat also informed that
transport department had received revenue of Rs 87 crore from 5 lakh 70
thousand vehicles at these checkposts in year 2016-17, which are now being
closed to implement the vision of one nation, one tax and one market.
