Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr Raman Singh said that Chhattisgarh Government got the inspiration of formulating nation's first food security and nutrition security law to distribute rice to poor families of state at nominal rate of Rs 1/kg, from Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh, who in 1856 years had extorted food grains from store of an elite family and distributed it to drought-affected hungry farmers and villagers of Sonakhan and saved their lives.
In his address to the programme organized in Sonakhan area of Balodabazar district today, Chief Minister expressed the aforementioned thoughts. Senior leader Mr. Amit Shah also attended the programme as Chief Guest. Dr Singh accorded Mr. Shah a warm welcome by adorning him with 'Gaur Sing' headgear. Dr Raman Singh said- a life-size bronze statue of Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh will be erected in Sonakhan. Dr Singh also announced sanction of Rs 15 lakh for renovation of Veer Narayan Singh's ancestral home and a local pond. Dr Singh said- Veer Narayan Singh has been entitled as the first martyr of Chhattisgarh in Indian Freedom Movement.
As Chief Guest of the programme, veteran leader Mr. Amit Shah said- this valorous land of Sonakhan is sacred for every patriot. Mr. Shah said- I feel fortunate to have visited this place of Chhattisgarh, where the freedom fighter Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh was born. Mr. Shah said that Veer Narayan Singh had made tremendous contribution in the fight for independence against British rule in year 1857. His love for the country and compassion for poor people is inspiring for entire humanity. Mr. Amit Shah welcomed Dr Singh's announcement of putting up life-size bronze statue in Sonakhan. Mr. Shah said that it is a way of honoring all the freedom fighters of Chhattisgarh. In the programme, Dr Raman Singh and Mr. Amit Shah felicitated the successors of Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Mr. Rajendra Singh Diwan, Mr. Ramsingh, Mr. Anjor Singh, and Mrs. Jeerabai with shawl and 'shreefal'.
On the occasion, State Government's Forest Minister Mr. Mahesh Gagda, School Education and Tribal Caste Development Minister Mr. Kedar Kashyap, Ex-Vidhan Sabha Seaker Mr. Dharamlal Kaushik, MLA of Sihava area Mr. Shravan Markam, MLA of Antagarh Mr. Bhojraj Nag, Member of State Scheduled Tribe Commission Mr. Vikas Markam, MP Ms Saroj Pandey, Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Sonakhan Mrs. Hemlata Yadav, many public representatives and a large number of villagers were present. The programme was conducted by Tribal Caste Development Minister Mr. Kedar Kashyap and vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Vikas Markam. Immediately after reaching Sonakhan via helicopter, Chief Minister and Mr. Amit Shah visited the 'samadhi' of Veer Narayan Singh and paid courteous floral tribute.
